How to choose magnetic tiles
Magnetic tiles are the one construction toy that works from age three to about age ten, which is unusual enough to be the main reason to own them. What separates a good set from a cheap one is the rivet: the magnets should be sealed inside ultrasonically welded plastic, not glued, so a dropped tile does not eventually release a small magnet. Ask about this, because a swallowed pair of magnets is a surgical emergency rather than an ordinary toy hazard. Beyond safety, count the shapes rather than the pieces — squares and equilateral triangles are the working minimum, and a set that adds right-angle triangles builds roofs. Sets from different brands generally attract each other, so a second box usually extends the first.

Are magnetic tiles safe for a 3-year-old?
Yes, where the magnets are sealed by ultrasonic welding rather than glued, which is what we stock. The tiles themselves are far too large to swallow. We do not list open-magnet building rods for under-sixes at all.
Will these connect to another brand we already own?
Almost always. Standard tiles are 7cm on the square edge and the magnets are polarity-free, so tiles rotate to attract rather than repel. Check the edge measurement on the listing against what you have.
How many tiles are enough to start?
Around 40 pieces builds real structures a child is proud of. Below about 24 they mostly make flat patterns, which is fine for a toddler and frustrating for a six-year-old.
